Welcome to ReadJapanese.org!
Learn how to make the most of this Japanese learning platform.
What is ReadJapanese.org?
ReadJapanese.org adapts Japanese text perfectly to your level. Learn kanji by practicing with words and stories about topics you actually care about - not boring textbook sentences. As you learn more, the app automatically adjusts to show you more challenging content. It's Japanese practice that feels personal.
Text Generation
The Text Generation feature creates personalized Japanese stories tailored to your learning level. Simply enter a topic, and the AI generates a story using vocabulary and grammar appropriate for your skill level. Perfect for learning new skills in the context of your interests!
Key Settings:
- Known Kanji: Each text is adjusted to your known Kanjis. Set your level in the Learning Settings.
- Vocab Level: Sets the JLPT vocabulary difficulty (N5 = beginner, N1 = advanced). Set your level in the Learning Settings.
- Grammar Level: Controls sentence complexity and grammar patterns (N5 = beginner, N1 = advanced). Set your level in the Learning Settings.
- Speech Style: Choose between plain Japanese, polite form (γ§γ/γΎγ), or keigo
Text Transformer
The Text Transformer allows you to paste any Japanese text - news articles, song lyrics, manga, or anything else - and transforms it into an interactive reading experience.
How it works:
- Paste any Japanese text you want to read
- The AI analyzes and segments the text into individual words
- Unknown kanji are automatically replaced with readings
- Click any word to see its reading and meaning
Saving Stories
Both Text Generation and Text Transformer allow you to save stories for later review. Saved stories are stored in your library and can be accessed anytime.
Features:
- Review stories anytime from your library
- Stories adapt to your current kanji knowledge
Learning Settings
Your Learning Settings control how the AI generates and transforms text. Configure these to match your current Japanese proficiency.
Settings explained:
- Known Kanji: Mark kanji as known. Unknown kanji will show Hiragana readings instead.
- Vocab JLPT Level: N5 (beginner) to N1 (advanced). Controls word complexity.
- Grammar JLPT Level: Controls sentence structure and grammar patterns.
Tip: Start with N5 settings and gradually increase as you learn more kanji and grammar patterns.
Token Budget
Every AI request costs coins based on the number of tokens processed. This is because the Gemini LLM is a paid service, and I am currently covering the costs for all users, but my budget is limited.
How it works:
- You receive a daily coin budget (resets every day)
- Each request deducts coins based on the response length
Important: To keep this service free for everyone, the coin budget is intentionally limited.
